I was wondering the same ... tagnshare1234: We (humans) have airspaces (sinuses, eustachian tubes) that are compressed by pressure exerted on them by the surrounding water, so when diving we have to force ambient-pressure air into these airspaces or experience *very* painful squeezes. Presumably, cats / dogs would have the same problem.

Gene,if you're reading this,pls see a vet about putting Hawkeye on a diet.You clearly love her,but her obesity puts her at risk of heart attack,stroke,diabetes etc and dying way too early.I know you don't want that.I think she's adorable,and it's cool that she scuba 'floats' but she'll be healther and in less arthritic pain if she's slimmer.
